Yvette Craig

I was chatting to Yvette Craig who is a photographer based down in Kent. She does all sorts of photography including weddings, equine, family and also that rather naughty boudoir style photography!

So, as I have a family wedding coming up, I thought I'd ask Yvette what makes photography so special in her life.

I got some interesting answers.

Having spent many years in cirporate world, and like me, getting disillusioned with it, Yvette looked for something new about 12 years ago. She had always been an "enthusastic amateur". However, after some serious thought, she decided that maybe photography was her true calling. So, she decided to take an in depth course designed to teach her everything to take her basic skill set to a commercial level.

"I knew very quickly I was on the right path", she says.

"I just loved getting into the detail of how to take pictures. The special effects you can create and the technical detail needed to take high quality images - I loved it all".

There is no doubt if you look at Yvette's website (which you can find by clicking here) you'll see her distictive style come shining through. But what is it, outside of the technical stuff that you really enjoy about being a photographer.

"I love the interaction with people. I know what I do is going to make them happy. This is particularly so if I am covering a wedding. I have spent a lot of time with the bride and groom prior to the big day. I know what they want. I understand the slight quirks of some of the relatives and I enjoy putting them all at ease so that I capture the best and most memorable moments as high qaulity images".

It's certainly true that your photographer can "make or break" your wedding day. I've seen situations where unprofessional photographers can totally ruin a wedding day! But I was facsinated by boudoir shoots - how do you go about them?

"Certainly many women are out of their comfort zone when the do these shoots. I have to relax them, put them at their ease and then get them to, for want of a better way of putting it, flaunt themselves (but in a stylish way). Make them feel sexy. It surprises me that most women who want these sorts of pictures are middle aged, but they are just so beautiful. They have so mch to give and once they have relaxed into the shoot I get some stunning shots. And, to a woman, they are just sopleased they went ahead, despite potential misgivings up front".
